218 Academy is a ministry of First Baptist Church in Cary, North Carolina offering both private and group music lessons to individuals both in the church and our community. Lessons are open to all ages from small children up through senior adults. Anyone who wants to learn is welcome!
We offer instruction in many different instruments and all lessons are taught at the First Baptist Church campus in downtown Cary. Our Fall Semester consists of 14 lessons while the Spring Semester contains 18 lessons. A Summer Quarter of 4 lessons is also offered.
218 Academy is under the direction of Jill Poyner, pianist for First Baptist Church.
Tuition may be paid in full at the beginning of the semester/quarter or in monthly or quarterly installments (see the registration form and contract for details). The first payment is due prior to the first lesson. Each consecutive payment is due by the first lesson of each subsequent month.
All music and additional materials needed by the student will be purchased separately at the direction of the instructor.

Jill Poyner holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Campbell University. With a major in voice and a minor in piano, she is certified to teach band, chorus, and orchestra in grades kindergarten through twelve. After teaching in the Johnston County School System for 6 years, she made the decision to stay home and raise her sons. She has been the keyboardist and sung vocals in First Baptist Church of Cary’s Praise Band since 2001, and has served as the church pianist since 2003. When she has the opportunity, Jill also enjoys playing keyboard, bass guitar, and singing in a worship band for youth events in the area. She has been a private instructor in both voice and piano to a wide range of students and has performed with many different vocal and instrumental groups, performing styles including opera, Christian rock, jazz, and classical. Jill also serves as the vocal & ensemble coach at CaryFBC.
